A winter expressway running between snow-covered woods

We build the road
and keep it open.

Taisetsu Line is a civil contractor in Asahikawa and the Kamikawa area: road improvement, bridge repair and snow clearing.

We build what
you never see.

Under the surface lie the subgrade and the base course. Compact them thick enough and the road wears differently ten years later.

No short cuts.

Judge us as much by how we built it as by what we built.

Before we break ground we walk the neighbourhood and the school route and set the order in which traffic moves. The programme is rewritten every week.

We check the moisture of the subgrade before we roll it. On a wet day we do not compact.

Instead of batter boards we dig with satellite-guided machines and keep the finished shape in three dimensions.

The morning starts with a hazard briefing for everyone; the day ends by looking under every machine.

From roads to snow —
four kinds of work.

[ 01/04 ]

Road improvement

Widening and realignment: subgrade replacement, kerbs and gutters, and the paving on top.

[ 02/04 ]

Bridge repair

Deck replacement, bearing renewal and section repair, worked at night under single-lane alternating traffic.

[ 03/04 ]

Snow and ice

Town routes and mountain roads, cleared before the morning commute. De-icer spreading included.

[ 04/04 ]

Earthworks and slopes

Site formation for housing and factories, and slope protection on cuttings. Spoil is reused on site.

Sometimes we come in late, to a site whose programme has already slipped. We find every place where the drawing and the ground disagree before we start digging.

Widening and resurfacing a city road

Road improvementDrainagePaving

We widened a city road that had run out of width and replaced the gutters. It is a school route, so one lane stayed open every morning and evening.

Replacing the deck of a river bridge

Bridge repairNight work

The worn deck was replaced overnight and traffic ran again by morning. The temporary falsework was built around the river level.

Winter upkeep of a mountain route

From December to March we open the route between night and morning. How much de-icer goes down depends on the air and surface temperature.

We levelled sloping ground and gave the rainwater somewhere to go. The cut material went back into the fill on the same site.

Rebuilding a junction with a new footway

We widened a junction where right-turning traffic backed up and added a footway. The work was split into three sections so no shop entrance was ever blocked.

What first-time clients
ask us.

Do you charge for an estimate?

We price the job after seeing it. Within Asahikawa and the Kamikawa area we can give you a rough figure on the spot. There is no charge for the estimate.

Will you take a small job?

Yes — replacing a gutter, surfacing a car park, anything that finishes in a day. Call us and tell us what you have.

Can a private household order snow clearing?

We work by neighbourhood association or by business. A private house is taken on only when it sits on a route we already clear.

I am worried about noise and vibration.

Before we start we call on the neighbours and tell them the working hours. When we are driving piles we let them know the day before.

Can you build in winter?

Paving and compaction lose quality as the temperature drops. From November we only make a temporary reinstatement and finish the job after the thaw.

Where do I find your job openings?

The careers section lists the trades we are hiring and how the work is organised. You can apply with no experience.

We are short of
operators — and of
people who draw.

We build roads and bridges in Asahikawa and Kamikawa. People who joined with no experience and learned to run a machine are the ones running the sites now.

For anything
about roads

One number takes both kinds of call: a job to quote, or a job to apply for. Weekdays 8:00–17:00, and through the winter we answer snow calls at night too.
