A day at
Kanadekan
From the breakfast room at seven to the fireplace at night — five things a guest might do.

Nine parties a night, no more
Built in 1923 and rebuilt inside
Served from 7:00 to 9:30
Welcome to
A nine-room hotel halfway up a slope in Motomachi, Hakodate. The house was built in 1923 and we still use it as it stands. Breakfast is served downstairs. The harbour is below the windows.
Motomachi is a town of slopes. Walk down from the house and you reach the harbour; walk up and you are at the foot of Mount Hakodate. The tram stop and the street of churches are both within walking distance.
The breakfast room in the morning, the bay-window seat at midday, the fireplace room at night. Treat the whole house as an extension of your room.

The beds and desks were rebuilt from the timber of the original house. Linen sheets, wool blankets, and double windows throughout.
See the rooms (all nine)
There are nine rooms: three twins, three doubles, two singles and one suite. No two have the same plan or face the same way, so each one carries its own name.
A corner room facing the harbour, with two windows and a small chest between them. There are three of them, and the higher the floor the further you see.
At the back of the ground floor, with a fireplace we light in the late afternoon. Any book on the shelves may be carried up to your room.
